The TWO Zagat Best/Favorite Lists:
Zagat surveys movie goers and publishes a Movie Guide each year based on a survey completed by about 20,000 movie viewers. The 2009 edition listed 2,300 movies, scoring each movie on a 30 point scale in four categories: Overall, Acting, Story and Production (these scores might be good in combination with the IMDB score). In the front of their Movie Guide they have one page listing the “Favorite Films of All Time”. 13 of the 75 movies in this list were released through 1960:
- Casablanca
- Gone With The Wind
- Citizen Kane
- It’s A Wonderful Life
- African Queen
- Wizard of Oz
- Moulin Rouge
- Affair to Remember
- Singin’ in the Rain
- All About Eve
That was the TOP TEN. The rest of the list for movies through 1960:
- 12 Angry Men
- Rear Window
- Maltese Falcon
They also published a book, “The World’s Best Movies” in 2010, a book listing the top 1,000 movies of all time. In this book they included a “TOP 20 MOVIES” list – half were released through 1960:
- Casablanca
